The Ministry of Labour on Thursday, August 22, revealed the new salary scales for various sectors under the “Remuneration Orders”. These adjustments concern employees in various sectors, including transport, pre-primary education, factories, and many others.
In the transport sector, for example, a traffic supervisor with one year of service will now receive a monthly salary of Rs 24,535, which can rise to Rs 26,110 after 10 years of seniority. Drivers will see their salary increase from Rs 22,368 to Rs 23,943, depending on their length of service.
In pre-primary schools, teachers (Grade 1) will get Rs 17,671 after one year of service, and Rs 18,744 after 10 years. Non-teaching staff, such as cooks and school attendants, will get Rs 17,100. As for factory employees, a chief clerk with one year of experience will get Rs 19,940, while a word processing officer will earn Rs 17,787.
These salary scales have been established for employees in various sectors, including those working in law firms and notaries, bakeries, banks, fishermen and refrigeration workers, the construction and quarrying industry, the tourism and hotel industry, cinema, cleaning companies, distribution businesses, domestic workers, as well as electrical, mechanical and engineering workshops.
