The official program of the 2024 National Day celebrations, which will be celebrated on Tuesday March 12, 2024 at the Champ de Mars, Port Louis, will include: a flag raising ceremony at the Champ de Mars at 2:00 p.m., followed by the official ceremony of flag raising at the Champ de Mars at 2:00 p.m. The Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage, Mr. Avinash Teeluck, shared details of the day during a press conference at the headquarters of his Ministry in Port-Louis.
There will be parades of helicopters from the Mauritian police and the Indian navy, Dornier aircraft, a detachment of the second French parachute regiment of the marine infantry of the armed forces of the southern Indian Ocean zone, as well as as a parade of vehicles and fleets organized by local authorities and non-governmental organizations.
The Majorettes and Majors of Queen Elizabeth College will also be part of the program, followed by a cultural program with a plethora of artists, Mr. Teeluck added.
On this day, the cultural program will revolve around an official cultural event designed and staged by the National Troupe of Mauritius Ltd, a newly created special purpose company operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage . The program will highlight the multicultural richness of Mauritius through a series of dances and will include the revisited version of the emblematic song “Ruz Ble Zonn Ver” by the group ABAIM, which will be performed by around twenty popular local singers and a choir made up of around a hundred children.
The minister thus invited the public to participate in the national day celebrations at the Champ de Mars, stressing that bus and metro fares will be reduced by half two hours before and after the event to allow the population to participate in the celebrations. . Transport will be free for children under 13 and the ministry will provide buses in different regions.
