Holcim Mauritius, one of the leading cement suppliers, is planning to set up a new and innovative ecological cement plant on the island.
After burning coal at the power plant, its residue (ash) will be used to produce ecological cement for the construction of houses. The project will necessitate an investment of Rs 120 million.
Alexandre Jeker, the director general of Holcim Mauritius, said that the project will lead to a 12 per cent fall in the price of cement on the island. He added, “The project will stimulate the market for special cement products and will lead to savings in the construction industry, which in turn could be passed on to consumers.”
The promoter of the project said that that the construction industry must follow their footsteps so as to contribute to the reduction of carbon emission.
The report says, “One of the principal areas that the cement industry must follow if it wants to achieve sustainability and reduce carbon emission.”
