The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) launched the Electronic Current Payment System (E-CPS), a new online service, on Wednesday. The new website is part of the MRA’s initiative to encourage more taxpayers to complete their returns online.
Professionals in private practice and those involved in rental market are concerned by this quarterly exercise.
Three criteria are associated to determine who has the legal obligation to complete the CPS statement. Professionals, including lawyers, dentists and private doctors, with a turnover of Rs 500,000 are affected by it.
In addition, those with a gross income of Rs 100,000 or more and those with a monthly rental income from real property, including commercial and industrial profits, of about Rs 25,000 are also affected by this exercise.
Professionals who find themselves in this range have until June 30 to complete the necessary forms and send their tax payment for the first quarter of 2011. An officer from the MRA Communication Unit explained that the aim of the project is simple.
“Our priority is to facilitate the task of taxpayers,” said the officer.
The E-CPS can be accessed on the homepage of the MRA website at http://mra.gov.mu.
