According to the acting minister of Finance and Economic Development, Vasant Bunwaree, major infrastructural works, including the construction of the main building and the administrative office at the tourist village at Belle Mare have been completed.
However, some pending work is still ongoing and the project will be completed by the end of this month.
The minister was answering a question by second member for Flacq and Bon Accueil, Dhiraj Khamajeet at the parliamentary session on Tuesday.
“When the project was announced in the budget speech 2006-07, the aim was to give small and medium entrepreneurs the opportunity to sell their products to tourists in the context of what was called widening the circle of opportunities,” said Bunwaree.
He added that the modalities for renting the outlets were being looked into, in consultation with relevant parties.
The total cost of the project is Rs 185 million, inclusive of value added tax. The leader of the Opposition, Paul Bérenger quizzed the minister on the initial estimates of the project and the minister replied that it was “almost the same.”
