On Saturday, Ameeksha Dilchand was crowned Miss Mauritius 2011 during the grand finale of the contest, which was held at the J & J Auditorium, Phoenix. Shalini Panchoo was the first runner-up while Ingrid Pudaruth was crowned second runner-up.
Speaking to The Independent, Ameeksha said, “I am speechless. Firstly I would like to stress on the fact that I have never been on a ramp before. I would like to thank the committee and all the members.”
She added, “Tomorrow will be a new day. I believe that pageantry is a platform that gives us young women an opportunity to voice our choices and opinions. It also allows us to improve our personality and become better women of tomorrow.”
As proud parents of the winner, her mother, Meera Dilchand said, “I am very happy that my daughter is Miss Mauritius 2011. I want tot thank the jury members, Primrose Obeegadoo, all her friends and family members. She will finish her studies and will to do something for her country. I am very excited.”
Talking about the winner, deputy director of the Miss Mauritius National Organisation, Vanessa Obeegadoo said, “I am very happy because Ameeksha is generous and intelligent. She has the whole package.”
