With a view to further increasing its efficiency, the Passport and Immigration Office is doing its best to offer better and quicker services to Mauritians.
The chief clerk of the Passport and Immigration Office stated that the employees are committing themselves to ensure that rapid service is provided to the general public. “Previously, a person who had applied for a passport had to wait for seven days but last year, the number of days was reduced to five. This year, we are going one step further and now, it will require only four days to get the passport,” said the chief clerk.
He pointed out that the staff is doubling their efforts. “We are working longer hours and we have also cut down our lunch time. The public can also make an application during lunch time as the department is not closed. We want to make sure that people are satisfied with our services,” he added.
The chief clerk stated that it is possible to reduce the number of days further if more people are recruited. “For instance, if a person makes an application for a passport on Monday, it should be processed within four days. He should receive the passport by Thursday if all documents are fine,” he explained. In case of loss of passport or if it is damaged, there will not be much change.
