This was stated by the Lord Mayor, Mahmad Kodabaccus to The Independent. He said, “Port Louis will soon become an oasis. This is a first in the island. I am not talking of saplings which will take years to grow, but of adult trees which will be provided by the Forestry Services.”
The project which will cost around Rs 5 million will begin after the resumption of the National Assembly.
Kodabaccus said, “Trees and other plants help cool the environment. The trees will help reduce peak summer temperatures by 1 to 7 degrees.
“The winter-heating bills of buildings will be reduced by as much as 15 percent, while summer-cooling energy needs will be cut by as much as 50 per cent,” he added.
