Audit: Hundreds of Millions of Rupees as Additional Costs Swallowed Up in the Sewers

The report of Audit on the accounts of the state for 2011 was released this Tuesday, July 10. The complaints against the Department of Public Services for mismanagement of projects all at the sewer cynically resemble those of previous years.

Rs 580.6 million and Rs 295.4 million respectively for two projects all at the sewage in the district of Plaines Wilhems-.Additional claims of companies that won contracts from the Department of Utilities to continue to astronomical proportions. In the case of second-Wilhems Plains project, Rs 122 million from Rs 295.4 claimed have already been approved by the Waste Water Management Authority (WWMA). March 31, 2012, Rs 432.4 million had been paid to the contractor concerned. As the first project (Plaines Wilhems-) the initial cost of Rs 2.3 billion, claims of Rs 580.6 million are still under consideration at the WWMA and the Department of Utilities.

The main reasons given by the contractors to demonstrate these additional claims: the reference time and the change in the depth of excavations for laying pipes .. The second project-Wilhems Plains, for example, Rs 88 million claims concern the extension of deadlines. The audit manager is, among others, delays in approving programs of diversionary traffic and road closures by the Traffic Management and Road Safety Unit (TMRSU) Ministry of Public Infrastructure.

Note that for the proposed Baie du Tombeau, Central Proccurement Board approved only the sum of Rs 139 million from Rs 285.8 million claimed. 30% of the initial project cost as provided by law.
