More than 20,000 applications were received during the weekend and those who are interested have until Saturday to submit their applications for the upcoming phase.
Applications will be processed on a first come, first served basis given that they qualify for the grants.
DBM Senior Development Officer Dadoo Bhagirutty told The Independent: "A fund of Rs 240 million was allocated for the scheme. Government expenditure has amounted to more than Rs 140 million so far. The remaining Rs 90 million will be provided to 9,000 families. Around 38,000 families have benefited from a solar water heater under this plan since 2008." He pointed out that applicants should stick to the list of approved suppliers provided by the MID fund. "Some suppliers, who were initially on the list have been dropped as the MID Fund was dissatisfied with their services.
