Prime Minister Announces Village Elections for December 2

Navin Ramgoolam announced the elections for village Sunday, December 2. The Nomination Day is scheduled for Saturday, November 17. This announcement was followed by the publication of Writs of Election to the 130 villages in the country by the President of the Republic.

The maneuvers in the regional elections can now begin. Meanwhile those elections, the head of government has released the date of village elections on Thursday 1st November. The rural voters will go to the polls Sunday, December 2, whereas the registration of candidates (Election Day) will take place on November 17.

The Prime Minister made the announcement in a statement to the press after a cultural show he attended Mahatma Gandhi Institute, Moka. Celebrations organized in the framework of Andhra Day marking the 56th anniversary of the establishment of the state of Andhra Pradesh in India.

The head of government, however, has given no indication that it is a municipal election. "The city? Expect we will do things one to one, "he told reporters who questioned him.

In the half hour that followed this statement the President of the Republic sent to the newsroom Writs of Elections for the 130 villages, as is the tradition.
