The island will also participate in the 28th CJSOI Ministerial Meeting in August and the 7th edition of the Francophonie Games which will be held in Nice in September.
“Regarding the youth, the setting up of a Youth Parliament to provide a platform to young people in decision making and to debate over issues of national interest as well as to involve the youth in activities and projects geared towards preservation of our national and cultural heritage will be the priority of the Ministry of Youth and Sports,” said minister Devanand Ritoo to The Independent.
He added that our life skills programme will be adapted to various segments of the youth population and there will be more youth exchanges at regional levels. “Regarding Rodrigues, the ministry will extend facilities and assists the Commission for Health and Sports to attain its objectives.”
Ritoo wants to ensure that all athletes from Rodrigues are given an equal chance to be part of national selections. The ministry through the Trust Fund for Excellence in Sports has set up the Pole Jeune and Pole Espoir training centres in several sports in Rodrigues with the aim to enable potential athletes to undergo adequate training in their respective sports.
