Elections 2012 Results In North, South, East, West
50.54% of electors voted to elect 1,170 village Councillors on Sunday. A total of 247,298 out of 489,284 went to the polls. The village of Banane saw the highest number of votes with 94.08% turnout.

North

Most of the polling stations in the 18 villages in Pamplemousses and 19 villages in Riviere du Rempart were not brimming with people with people on Sunday. Rainfall acted as a deterrent and dampened the enthusiasm of voters in regions such as Grand Gaube, Triolet, Trou aux Biches, Arsenal, Grand Bay and Terre Rouge.

The two villages in the North with the highest number of voters were Triolet and Terre Rouge.

No parties were able to obtain a majority in Triolet. Parti Socialiste led by Ranjiv Woochit obtained four seats on nine and is constrained to associate with other elected members to manage the village council.

Prithviraj Manaroo topped the list with 1 812 votes, 381 votes more than his challenger Ranjiv Woochit.

Ranjiv Woochit said that he intends to merge with l’Unité and le Progrès de Triolet.

The revelation of the Northern election is Prithiviraj Manaroo from Mouvement Socialiste (symbol: butterfly). The leader of the Mouvement Socialiste came out first with 1821 votes.?Prithiviraj Manaroo contributed a lot in the religious and social of the village.

Rajab Auleear, former president of the village of Triolet came fifth. He was the only elected member of the party having as symbol a Lock.

L’unité et le Progrès du Village elected three candidates namely Abdool Shafi ck Jungal , Diksha Poteeram and Iqbal Aubeeluck.?The suspense lasted for many hours in Triolet yesterday. At 18:40, Returning Officer, Mehdi Munrakhan proclaimed the results.

Although there were not many voters, it must be noted that the proclamation of the results took a lot of time in most of the villages.

At Goodlands, the team led by Anand Bahadoor (watering can) won the eleven seats.

The Groupement Unité et Progrès won all the seats in Grand Gaube where social worker Ashil Ramkisson once again topped the list.

La Jeunesse Socialiste led by Guruduth Chuckun, vice president of the district council won seven of the nine seats at Petit-Raffray.

At Riviere-du-Rempart, le Mouvement pour le Progrès, party close to the MSM won six seats but its leader Manisha Jhurry lost by 40 votes.

South

The village of Mahebourg was buzzing with electoral agents and supporters at 14:00 yesterday. It was a tight race between the two main teams, Ciseaux (PTr) and Parasol (MSM-MMM). Both of these teams were predicting a 5-4 victory.

The Parti Parasol, led by Dhaneshwar Deonarain was proclaimed the winner at 15:00 as expected.

“I congratulate all the Mahebourg inhabitants who voted for Parti Parasol and sent a strong message to the Government.

It was a surprise that Georges Ah-Yan, the social worker was not elected in Mahebourg.

Savanne

In the 17 villages of Savannes, the Groupement National de Britania won the nine seats, the Groupement Social de Rivière-des-Anguilles won five seats and Parti Nouveau Vision obtained four.

Potayah Kuppan, of Mouvement Militant de Chemin-Grenier, is thrilled that his group managed to elect nine Councillors.

Potayah Kuppan said that his party is ready to work with any Government.

Parti Unité Nationale won five of the nine seats at Camp-Diable. Siddick Domun, member of the party said there are a lot of innovative projects to improve the life of the inhabitants. “It was time to change. We are ready to work with other elected members and the Government. The contribution of everyone is needed,” he said.

East

The village elections in the eastern region of the island proceeded in a quiet, smooth and almost incident free manner on Sunday. ?In St Pierre, one of the biggest villages of Moka district (11,677 electors); only 33.3% of voters (3889 electors) had cast their vote at poll closing time.?

Centre-de-Flacq

It was a tight race between the first nine candidates in Centre-de-Flacq. L’Union Flacquoise (symbol: Ball) won the seven seats while the parti Groupement Social de Flacq (symbol: lock) obtained two seats.

Satiaprakash Bhunsee topped the list with 1 813 votes. Very popular in the region, he was elected several times in Flacq.

The Groupe Progressive de Sébastopol led by Mohit Somaroo won all the seats in Sebastopol.

The Fourchette team won at Lalmattie and Bon-Accueil.

At Poste-de-Flacq, the Poste-de-Flacq Progressive Party won as expected. At 11:30, Navin Mungla was already leading by 200 votes.

At Queen Victoria, six candidates of Groupement Socialiste de Queen Victoria/Bonne-Mère (symbol: Ball) and three candidates of Parti de l’Avenir were elected.

“It is a big victory for us, we were supported by the MMM-MSM, a member of the winning party said.

West

 ?The number of votes recorded in the village elections in the West was rather mediocre, where most of the voting centres had registered a participation of less than 50% by 4 pm.

At Flic en Flac, the Groupe Social de Flic-en-Flac won all the nine seats.

The group of Dayal Baznath, Groupement Rassembleur de Flic-en-Flac (GRFF), which is close the PTr is well beaten.

In Albion, the results were proclaimed at noon. The Travailleur Social Albion (TSA) topped the list.

At La Gaulette, the Union Patriotes Ilois Mauriciens (UPIM) (symbol: hat) won all the nine seats. La Gaulette village has the highest participation rate in the West with 1521 electors.

The supporters of the elected candidate in Le Morne, Bambous, Petite-Riviere and Cascavelle participated in a rally to celebrate their victory yesterday afternoon.
