Demonstration Outside Parliament: Twenty Unionists Arrested

Since the beginning of the afternoon, union meeting in the GWF gathered outside the parliament, they say, until the reaction Shakeel Mohamed on request. They wanted to know if the Minister of Labour had launched the debate on the amendments to the Employment Relations Act and the Employment Rights Act to the National Assembly on Tuesday 18 December.

The decision to go in front of the parliament was taken at a meeting of delegates of the GWF, earlier. Ashok Subron, one of the leaders of the trade union platform issued an ultimatum to the Minister of Labour. The Assembly of Delegates voted in favor of a sit-in outside Parliament if, at 13:30 Shakeel Mohamed did not abandon the idea of ??debating two bills today.

At 13:15, the unionists are, therefore, directed to the parliament. And it is around 15 hours the police arrested the trade unionists Ashok Subron, Devanand Ramjattun, Serge Jauffret, Jeff Lingaya and Alain Edouard, among others. Until that moment, the union had had no information as to the holding of debates on the two laws.
