De L’Eco Austral: GML on the Podium Top 500 ...
The Mauritian group GML delighted the third place in the Top 500 companies of 2012-2013 Indian Ocean groupe Caillé de la Réunion pour talonner deux multinationales de l’île Sœur: Vindémia and Groupe Bernard Hayot.

This ranking is established by the magazine and is based Austral Eco, in most cases, the turnover (in euros) recorded for the fiscal year 2011. In a separate classification of banking institutions, Eco Austral place the Mauritius Commercial Bank in second place (in terms of net banking income) behind the Crédit Agricole de la Réunion.

Showing a turnover of 657.2 million euros for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2011, GML significantly outperformed the Group Curd (511 million euros in turnover for the year 2011) but is preceded by two multinational Reunion Vindémia and Groupe Bernard Hayot, including shareholders, says Alain Foulon, editor of Eco Austral, lie outside of the Indian Ocean. Vindémia and Groupe Bernard Hayot achieved a turnover of 890 million euros (in 2011) and € 760 million (in 2010) respectively. "GML was very active outside Mauritius in recent years, in many different sectors of the hospitality industry through finance, establishing itself in Reunion, Madagascar, Africa South, Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh ... A strategy that allowed him to boost its growth beyond the crisis in the euro area which still depends on the Mauritian economy, "writes Alain Foulon.

Eco Austral notes that most of the companies in the Top 500 are, in terms of turnover, small and medium enterprises. There are 236 companies in Mauritius which show a turnover of 5 million or more while at the Réunion are the number of 38 to 175 against and 16 in Madagascar Mayotte. In the case of the Big Island, however, it is clear that the figure may not reflect the economic reality of the country.

"At Reunion and Madagascar, there is a lack of large locally owned SMEs can hold a position against multinationals and not just supporting roles. It is an advantage to have Maurice managed to remain in possession of its economy in most sectors, Mauritian-owned companies that dominate, "says Alain Foulon.

In the special edition of the Eco Austral 2012-2013, the national airline, Air Mauritius, finds himself in fifth position with a turnover of 453.2 million euros for the fiscal year ending in March 2012 and a loss of 29.4 million euros. The IBL Group is the sixth largest group while Socota advanced to tenth place. Five other companies operating in different sectors of the Mauritian economy are among the top 20 ranking. These are Vivo Energy (eleventh), CIEL Group (thirteenth), Food and Allied Group (sixteenth), Rogers (seventeenth) and Total Mauritius (nineteenth).

Moreover, in the classification of banks, the Crédit Agricole Reunion which is No. 1 with a net banking income of € 193.2 million for the year ended December 31, 2011 against 110 4 million (30 June 2011) for the MCB. But the Mauritian banking group has a net euros three times higher than that of group Reunion: or 110.4 million against € 36.8 million. Even the State Bank of Mauritius (SBM),
