18 Scholarships for African Students...
The government approved the granting of eighteen scholarships to African students who will begin their studies in the academic year.

The choice of the eighteen grants was made by a panel chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tertiary Education and composed of representatives of the Prime Minister's Office, Ministries of Finance, Foreign Affairs, Education and Board of Investment and the Tertiary Education Commission. These students come from Botswana (2), Ghana (1) Kenya (2) Madagascar (1) Seychelles (2), Tanzania (1) Uganda (8) and Africa South (1). They incorporate the Mauritian tertiary institutions in academic year.

In Budget 2013, the government announced before the allocation of university scholarships to 50 deserving African students. Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam had in his speech at the summit of the African Union in Addis Ababa announced the decision to its African peers.

Sixty-three applications were received from candidates from 14 different countries. However, only eighteen were selected. The other candidates are not eligible for various reasons, including lack of educational qualifications, age or too high still incomplete registration forms.

The Ministry of Finance is very pleased with the initial results obtained in this program. It will be the Ministry of Tertiary Education to continue efforts to accommodate more deserving African students in Mauritian tertiary institutions.
