A total of 33 projects have been identified and placed under the Emergency Rehabilitation Programme of the Ministry of Public Infrastructure. From this list, more than twenty projects have been completed while work continues on other sites. In most cases, the work involves the rehabilitation of drains.
The biggest investment to date, are up to Rs 28 million and relate to work of upgrading rue Monseigneur Leen. The cleaning of the Ruisseau du Pouce and the underpass Caudan required investments of around Rs 4.7 M. In total, cleanup cost more than Rs 50 million to the state. More than 400 000 tonnes of waste have been removed from the capital during the post-flood cleaning operation undertaken in early April.
To date, a dozen other projects falling under the Emergency Rehabilitation Programme are ongoing. These mainly concern the construction of drains in Bell-Village, Butte, Pointe-aux-Sables and Vallée Pitot, among others. The development of Canal Dayot Work is also continuing. The project at a cost of Rs 9.9 million was allocated to the company Nawrang Co Ltd. It started on April 4. Cleaning, dredging and widening of the channel are part of this project. Another part of the project involves the construction of a drainage system in the Canal Dayot and James Mercier streets. Other projects were allocated to firms Nawrung Co Ltd, Gamma, Best Construction, General Construction and Safety Construction Co. Ltd.. The work should be completed by early next year, before the summer rains.
