The theme of the first edition of this competition, organized by the Department of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives, is " Ensam nou pli fort — Ensam nou progresser "
Target department, through this competition, excellence in the sector cooperatives. The MEAC, launched in August, attracted 242 participants from Mauritius and Rodrigues seven. It was open to any cooperative society operating in the manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, finance, among others. In the end, 70 companies submitted their reports.
Evaluation criteria are based on seven key elements of an organization such as leadership, policy development and deployment, human resources management, information and communication , operations management, and customer service excellence, and results.
Participants had until October 30, 2013 to submit their applications. Subsequently, a screening was performed by assessors from specialized agencies cooperatives. The reports submitted by the shortlisted companies will be subject to a technical assessment by a team of experts and will then be validated. The jury includes a former Registrar of Cooperatives, as well as representatives of the Mauritius Standards Bureau and Cooperative Development Advisory Board. The MEAC will be awarded in each sector of cooperative activities. One who has excelled in all categories will receive Rs 100,000 and a trophy and each winner will receive Rs 25 per sector 000 and a trophy.
