La Marine Ferm Mahebourg has unveiled its expansion project in Pointe-aux-Feuilles. An investment of Rs 230 million is expected to switch production from 450 to 3,000 tons per year. Three new sites have already been identified and 250 jobs will be created.
The project includes development of future operations of the marine farm expansion strategy and environmental management (which includes constant monitoring of the marine ecosystem).The expansion project will invest Rs 230 million to increase production to 3,000 tonnes of fish per year, including 2,000 tonnes of red drum ( Red Drum ) and 1,000 tons of bar ( European Sea Bass ). This equates to a capacity increase of 700%.
Three other sites for fish cages at sea will be introduced as well as a much larger hatchery, additional buildings for food storage and waste, as well as a diving center. The new operations will begin upon approval of the competent authorities and the granting of the permit EIA.
