Mauritius has seen 10 by-elections since 1970

23 June 1017, Belle Rose/Four Horns: Reform Party leader Roshi Bhadain resigned, triggering a by-election in the constituency.

1 March 2009, Quartier-Militaire/Moka: The Privy Council confirms the invalidation of Ashok Jugnauth's election for electoral fraud. A by-election allows Pravind Jugnauth to enter the National Assembly.

21 December 2003, Piton/Rivière-du-Rempart: Sir Anerood Jugnauth is sworn in as President of the Republic under the agreement between the MSM and the MMM. By resigning as an MP, he allows Rajesh Jeetah of the PTr to be elected.

14 December 2002, Rodrigues: Following Rodrigues' accession to autonomy, Serge Clair, leader of the Rodrigues People's Organisation (RPO), resigns as a Member of Parliament. He presented his candidacy for the first regional elections. He was defeated in the region of La Ferme. However, he returned to the race in the Grande-Montagne region in a by-election triggered by the resignation of Robert Spéville. The latter will run for the seat left vacant by Serge Clair. The OPR leader was elected and succeeded Daniel Spéville as Chief Commissioner of the Rodrigues Regional Assembly.

23 September 1999, Beau-Bassin/Petite-Rivière : Joceline Minerve of the MMM resigns from her position as MP for No. 20, following a disagreement with her party. The by-election is won by Xavier-Luc Duval, leader of the Parti mauricien Xavier Duval, who is supported by the PTr.

5 April 1998, Flacq/Bon-Accueil: A by-election is held after the death of Minister Gian Nath. Satish Faugoo of the PTr is elected, beating Sir Anerood Jugnauth of the MSM and Madun Dulloo of the MMM.

29 January 1995, Stanley/Rose-Hill: Paul Bérenger and Jean-Claude de l'Estrac resign. A by-election is organised. The leader of the Mauves and his running mate James Burty David (PTr) are elected against the tandem Jean Claude de l'Estrac / Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra.

18 October 1992, Port-Louis Maritime/Port-Louis East: Ammanullah Essoof of the MMM was elected, beating Cehl Meeah of Hizbullah. The by-election was caused by the resignation of Cassam Uteem, who was nominated for the presidency of the Republic by the MSM/MMM alliance.

11 June 1989, La Caverne/Phoenix: Ivan Collendavelloo resigns as MP for having vouched for South African businessman Sol Kerzner to obtain a Mauritian passport. Cyril Curé is elected.

21 September 1970, Pamplemousses/Triolet: Dev Virahsawmy of the MMM was elected ahead of Boodram Nundlall of the PTr. This first by-election in independent Mauritius was organised following the death of Lall Jugnauth of the Independent Forward Block.
