ICTA backtracks and announces lifting of social media suspension

The temporary suspension of social networks has been lifted according to the Information and Communication Technologies Authority. Through a press release, the ICTA, which yesterday announced a suspension of social networks until the day after the elections, announced this Saturday, November 2, the lifting of the temporary suspension of social networks, initially put in place on October 31.

According to the regulatory authority, this decision follows an assessment of the situation and consultations with the competent authorities.

The organization reiterates its “commitment to ensuring national security while guaranteeing regulated access to communications services.”

As a reminder, this decision did not have the effect hoped for by the government yesterday, because the Moustass Leaks videos continued to be published and viewed by Internet users despite the blocking of social networks.

An injunction was also filed in Court by Linion Reform yesterday in parallel with the various press releases sent to the authorities on this decision, notably from Business Mauritius, the MCCI, among others.
