Port-Louis will be the most efficient port

Once dredging is completed, the seabed will be 16m50, which will enable the port to accommodate larger vessels to load and unload containers. It will allow Port Louis to become the port most competitive and most successful of the Indian Ocean region. The port of Mauritius attracts the interest of large foreign investors and it has the rating it wants to become better known in the market.

Behind this, it was noted that the port will become the preferred port of all major shipping companies and cruise lines. It is already beginning to attract new operators and the Japanese are interested in investing there. Furthermore, the extension work of the Mauritius Container Terminal will be completed next year.

Work in the port is based on three principles: transparency, speed of execution and accountability. The port has increased by 50% and its activities are carried out 21 operations per hour at present. Waiting time for a ship has been reduced to 3 hours.  Previously, ships had to stay longer than 48 hours in port before unloading their containers. From 2008 until now, the Port of Port Louis has invested large sums of money to modernize its equipment and build infrastructure. Among the projects is the construction and development of the waterfront site Les Salines. Work to protect from the waves container fleet is underway. The MPA has commissioned three tugs for better service.

The port authorities and private companies are making a very intense campaign since last year with Japanese operators, to persuade them to use more frequently Port Louis. This mission is on track according to our information overlap.

The government also wants to expand the activities of the free port and transhipment. It will continue and modernization of the port, including handling and storage. Measures will be taken to improve logistics, information flow and customs procedures. In addition, the development of a leisure and cruise as economic activity will be accelerated.
