The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) invited 10 journalists of well read newspapers and magazines from Australia for a press trip to Mauritius from March 23-28.
Australia, which has a population of nearly 23 million inhabitants and approximately 6.8 million outbound tourists, shows immense potential for the local tourism industry.
The 10 Australian journalists, who were on their first visit to the island, were very impressed by the hospitality and smiles of the Mauritian people.
Australia is an emerging market for Mauritius. Thus, the MTPA wants to increase its visibility in this market. Arrivals from Australia are expected to grow by 15 per cent this year.
During their trip they visited the MTPA office for a working session with MTPA deputy director Vijaye Haulder.
They also discussed the possibility of having a stopover in Mauritius on their way to Europe and vice-versa.
For the five days in Mauritius, the journalists visited Port Louis, its monuments and market, the different places of worshipas well as the Pamplemousses Garden, Casela, Blue Bay, Black River Gorges, Rhumerie de Chamarel, Marine Park and few islets located in the southern part of the island.
The main partners for the trip were Air Mauritius, Solis, Heritage Telfair, One & Only and the MTPA.
