The Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre (RGSC), in collaboration with the Education Commission of Rodrigues, is organising a three-day exposition at Mon Plaisir Regional Centre for Arts and Culture. This will be held from July 15 to 17 and will consist of activities and experiments dedicated to science.
The aim of this event is to render the RGSC’s initiatives more accessible to Rodriguans and in this way make them more conscious about the importance and use of science and technology in our daily lives.
An exposition of projects prepared by the finalists of the Rodrigues Science Challenge 2011 will also be on display. This was launched in March and is a pedagogical contest for primary and early secondary students of Rodrigues. It is similar to the Science Adventure contest which the RGSC had organised in Mauritius this year.
Students have had to work in teams of four for the contest.
They had to choose between construction of a scientific model and demonstration of a scientific principle. The themes given were health, technology, marine science, natural resources, energy, environment, astronomy, scientific discoveries and inventions. The most popular themes among the participants of the Rodrigues Science Challenge 2011 were environment and energy.
The jury will announce the winners of each category during the exposition.
