Alliance de l’Avenir members hosted a press conference on Saturday at Port Louis to comment on allegations made by Opposition leader Paul Bérenger against the Prime Minister Dr Navin Ramgoolam with regards to the MedPoint case.
The secretary general of the PMSD, Salim Abbas Mamode and the secretary general of the MSM, Nando Bodha were among those present at the conference.
Labour Party general secretary Lormus Bundhoo reiterated that the head of the government had filed a complaint against Bérenger at the Central Criminal Investigation Division over the “false allegations”.
He stressed that it was not the first time that the leader of the Mouvement Militant Mauricien (MMM) had acted irresponsibly.
Bundhoo highlighted some examples of “false accusations” made by Bérenger towards several politicians and personalities.
He added that the leader of the MMM was trying to tarnish the image of the party and the country.
Bundhoo recalled the Sheikh Hossen case where Bérenger had accused the State Security Service of having set fire to Le Mauricien newspaper. “This was never proved and the testimony was considered pure invention,” said Bundhoo.
Another point highlighted by Bundhoo was the case when the MMM leader spread a rumour before the general elections in 1982, alleging that Lady Ringadoo had been arrested at the airport with false currency and jewellery.
He continued, “Bérenger has a habit of indulging in misleading campaigns.” He stressed that this was Bérenger’s method and approach, adding that this time he had been unmasked.
Bundhoo added that the government alliance was faithful to the head of the government and will stand by Ramgoolam to call Bérenger’s bluff.
