ICTA will make a fact-finding visit to Rodrigues from July 28 to 30

With an objective to democratise access to information and communication technology (ICT), representatives of the ICT Authority (ICTA) will make a fact-finding visit to Rodrigues from July 28 to 30.

Representatives of the authority will hold consultative meetings with members of the Rodrigues Regional Assembly (RRA) and ICT operators.

The officials will also explore the possibility of starting the process to set up an office on the island. Offering free WiFi zones in Rodrigues is also high on the ICTA’s agenda.

The delegation will join the members of the RRA to conduct a site survey of the proposed WiFi zones. They will also hold a series of meetings with the elecommunication operators and assess the allocation of frequencies and survey transmission sites.

The visit will culminate with a public forum on the democratisation of access to ICT in Rodrigues.

An awareness session on radio frequency safety will also be held following the three-day workshop examining issues associated with radio frequency safety and public perception of these issues.

The workshop on the implementation of the deployment of radio communication infrastructure for electromagnetic field, held at Labourdonnais hotel, Port Louis, ended on Wednesday.
