Minister Rashid Beebeejaun argues that there is no waste of taxpayers' money in projects that fall under his ministry. Questioned by the press on the findings of the report of the Audit, Rashid Beebeejaun rejects the argument that institutions have gobbled up public money for nothing.
The Public Utilities Minister speaks of additional costs incurred when "a project exceeds expectations." He used the example of any work to the sewer. "When we start work at a place, it often happens that mark other places that require further work," suggests he.
Seebaluck Suresh, Secretary to Cabinet and Head of Civil Service, also commented on the latest report from the Audit. He emphasizes that there are good reasons for the additional costs disclosed in the Ministry of Finance regarding overtime allowances paid to drivers and orderlies.
"The staff of the Ministry of Finance can not stop working at 16 hours. They often end in 21 hours or 22 hours. The drivers are paid to these executives bring home, "he says. Indeed, the document notes that Audit during 2011, some drivers have hit this ministry allocations amounting to Rs 160,000 for overtime.
The Head of Public Service also adds that the additional Rs 179 million disbursed for work at the prison in Melrose have been approved by the Central Procurement Board.
"I'm not saying that there are no gaps, but we must face the facts, there is a body that is responsible for reviewing the report of the Audit and ensure that the situation s 'improves', he argues.
