The human resource problem arises especially in the private sector. Some 3,000 accountants should be trained in the next three years. But to compensate for this lack, the country will not appeal to foreign professionals, because it has the ability to produce accountants.
"Given these facts, measures will be switched so that solutions will be found as soon as possible" says Madhavi Ramdin, Country Manager at ACCA Mauritius Matinal.
Mauritius is not only faced with the challenge of improving skill levels, but must also be able to match skills and jobs. The skills mismatch means, on the one hand, where a person has a job requiring a lower level of qualification or other cases where the type of qualification is not suitable for use.
Shortage of professionals in finance
Over 55% of employers believe that Mauritius is facing a shortage of skilled labor at the national level.
Among the difficulties faced by employers is the fact that employees expect high salaries, many qualified professionals prefer to opt for a job abroad.
This is a negative attitude towards the work that amplifies the problem of lack of skilled labor in the local market.
Recommendations will be made soon in order to boost the sector in terms of its manpower needs in order to attract more employees in the sector, retaining the skilled workforce, promoting the development of human resources and prepare for future requirements skills for the sector.
