Her arrest followed 18 complaints filed against it by people who have given him large sums of money against a promise to get a work permit in New Zealand. The damage is estimated at about Rs 3 M.
In her defense, the suspect said she acted only as an intermediary in this case. She said she works for a Mauritian established in New Zealand.
It was he who pocketed the money 18 job seekers. After pocketing the money she simply disappeared from circulation. She told police she tried in vain to get in touch with his employer, but it is unreachable. The survey is conducted under the supervision of Detective Inspector Seegoolam.
