And yesterday, Sunday, Dec. 22, fifty technicians Central Electricity Board (CEB) and soldiers of the Special Mobile Force (SMF) were mobilized to assist Rodrigues to recover from Hurricane Amara. At mid-day, the electricity supply has been restored to about 57%.
Regarding the telephone network, 20% of the subscribers of Mauritius Telecom (MT) have been disconnected due to damage by Amara. It is only within two weeks MT expects to fully restore the connection.
In terms of road infrastructure, roads were blocked by trees, towers and electrical son. And several houses sheet and the houses built by the State of which the roof is corrugated sheet were damaged. At least sixty people have taken refuge in the centers at their disposal.
Amara did not however bring the amount of rain expected by Rodrigues. Canon Point recorded 52 mm, 22 mm Plaine Corail, Citronelle 62 mm and 78 mm Roche Bon Dieu.
