Cement: Rising Prices From the Beginning of the Year

Those construction projects will put their hands in the pocket. Since 1 January 2014 the company Holcim has increased the price of cement bag Kolos , to the chagrin of some manufacturers. Than 50 kg increased from Rs 184 to Rs 198.72.

Cover Kolos 25 kgs increased it from Rs 92 to Rs 99.36. For Ecocem delivered by Holcim , we will have to pay Rs 193.32 against Rs 179 for 50 kg bag. While that of 25 kg costs Rs 93.96 against Rs 87. 

For operators, this new increase will increase the costs of individual projects. And  "the rising cost  of cement will cause the  other products manufactured  cement, such as  blocks " warns Uckoor Gerard, president of the Association of small entrepreneurs. He believes that a construction project of Rs 3 million, the increase may be in the vicinity of Rs 9,000 on consumption of 600 pouches.

This increase comes at a time in 2013, cement prices had increased. Holcim had, in fact, revised its prices up earlier this year. Cover and Portland 50 kg Lafarge is  delivered to Rs 182 instead of Rs 170 to the cement Fort George since February 2013. Since the liberalization of the local cement market on July 1, 2011, Mauritians are accustomed to increases the price of this product, launched in turn by the only two operators in this market.
