Storms: Warning System to Set Up Soon
A new warning system should be operational by July 2015.

Given the strong  storms that hit the south coast, particularly in Rivière-des-Galets, the alert system will be set up in Mauritius, Rodrigues and Agalega so that coastal communities have at least three hours' warning before storms , "said the responsible minister, Deva Virahsawmy. It was during the signing ceremony of an agreement to that effect, Thursday, March 13.

Our coastal areas are very important for our economy in terms of tourism and  fishing activities. One must keep in mind that the Mauritian coast have experienced heavy  storms, flooding and loss of life in the past , "added the Minister.

The implementation of this project is consistent with the " Climate change adaptation program in the costal area of Mauritius "aimed at increasing the resilience of communities and Reinforce livelihoods in coastal areas until 2060.

The cost of the project is Rs 10 million. In case of floods, storms, heat waves and hurricanes, among other things, the warning system for the detection, monitoring, forecasting, risk analysis, dissemination of warnings in a timely and activation of emergency plans.
