Bus services will resume at 6 a.m. on Wednesday morning—coinciding with the end of the curfew—specifically to allow candidates to travel to their School Certificate (SC) and Higher School Certificate (HSC) exams, which are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. This announcement was made by the Minister of Transport, Osman Mahomed.
According to the Minister, public transport workers are classified as essential service personnel. Consequently, they will be permitted on the roads prior to the lifting of the curfew to prepare the buses and ensure service begins at 6 a.m.
This measure aims to ensure the normal operation of public transport from the early morning hours, with particular attention paid to students needing to reach their examination centers.
Osman Mahomed has offered assurances regarding the resumption of service, confirming that the necessary arrangements are in place for operations to proceed normally on Wednesday morning.
The Metro Express will not be operational this Wednesday, October 14. This decision follows recent incidents in the country that have impacted the network's operations.
As a reminder, schools will remain closed this Wednesday, October 14, and no classes will be held. However, School Certificate (SC) and Higher School Certificate (HSC) candidates must still report to their examination centers, as the exams scheduled for Wednesday are proceeding as planned.
SC and HSC candidates who arrive late at their examination centers this Wednesday, October 14, due to transport difficulties will not be penalized. Special consideration has been arranged to allow them to sit for their exams. This was announced by the Minister of Education, Mahen Gungapersad, who stated that he had discussed the matter with officials from the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate (MES).
According to the minister, arrangements have been made to address the difficulties some candidates might face in reaching their exam centers, particularly if they are unable to find a bus.
Starting at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, candidates facing difficulties will also be able to request assistance via WhatsApp. They will be able to share their location to report their situation.
The numbers available to them are 5944 8400 and 5944 8401. They can also contact 403 8400.
