The Minister of Higher Education, Rajesh Jeetah has already had two sessions with stakeholders who were recently in Mauritius, including the director of ENSAM (Ecole Nationale Superieure d'Architecture de Montpellier) Heulot Lawrence, director the School of Architecture of the meeting Pierre Rosier and a representative from the Ministry of Culture in Paris, Maryline Laplace.
Why a school of architecture in Mauritius? The minister said that the Early Bird are quite young Mauritians who start studying architecture abroad.
"Right now, we do not have complete course in architecture in Mauritius and many young people want to have a degree in this field," he said. It states that ENSAM is one of the best schools of architecture in Europe.
"We have had initial discussions and now we have to analyze the different aspects in order to start the project. We want to start the project as soon as possible, but since there are several procedures to complete, construction will begin in 2014, "said Minister Jeetah.
He stated that "it is the representatives of ENSAM who showed interest in founding this school because it noticed that Maurice began to shine in the concept of 'knowledge hub' where we partner with a lot of foreign universities to provide all the opportunities and facilities for Mauritians to continue their studies, thus minimizing training costs while allowing students to evolve in their own environment. "
Laurent says Heulot ENSAM work with a local university on a program that will be adapted to the local context. He said he chose Mauritius in the Indian Ocean for the establishment of this school because of the good reputation of the island, which attracts more and more young people from countries in the region for their higher education.
